Autumn Capsule Wardrobe for AW 22/23

It’s autumn – my favourite season, at least in terms of fashion! The layers, the muted colours, the comfy coats… give me all of it! So naturally, come around September 1st, it was about time I created my autumn/winter capsule wardrobe for the coming cold months.

I’ve already owned most of these pieces for a few seasons and was lucky enough to score some real gems while thrift shopping. It can be challenging to create a seasonal capsule wardrobe without being tempted to shop fast fashion to keep up with this season’s trends. But with a little bit of patience, shopping second hand will help you find treasures that are not only more sustainble but also a fraction of the original buying price.

Without further ado, here’s the key pieces for my AW 22/23 capsule wardrobe:

1. Bottoms

When it comes to bottoms, let’s be real: comfort is the number one priority. That’s why my bottoms consist of a pair of relaxed fit blue jeans (originally a pair of Levi’s thrifted from the men’s section), a pair of white denim jeans and black, wide leg trousers. There’s just no way how you could ever go wrong with those!

2. Basic T-Shirts

There’s no elaboration needed on basic tees, is there? For a simple basic that, yet, subtly elevates every outfit, look out for a thicker fabric and avoid pieces that are too thin and lack texture.

3. Print T-Shirts

Print t-shirts are a great way to add some edge to an outfit. Paired with a blazer, they create the perfect balance between business and I-came-to-the-office-straight-from-the-concert. Plus, they’re a fun way to wear some of your favourite memories.

4. Shirts and blouses

I’m stealing some shirts (okay, all his shirts) from my husband’s wardrobe – men’s shirts just have that slightly oversized, structured texture that elevates any outfit. If you don’t have a husband/bf/brother/whoever to steal (ahem, borrow) shirts from, just shop the men’s department and enjoy the instant cool-girl-factor of men’s shirts.
Additionally, I added a flowy blouse to create more feminine, full-on business outfits.

5. Chunky Knits

Chunky knits are just about my favourite part of the autumn/winter fashion! They’re easy to style, they’re comfy and they keep you toasty in any weather. As someone who is CONSTANTLY cold, they’re an absolute key element to my wardobe from September onwards.

6. Blazers

Blazers are the it-piece of the season and definitely here to stay (I mean, have the ever been gone?). Pair them with a chunky knit for extra warmth or with a little black dress for a simple day-to-night-look.

7. Sneakers, Loafers & Combat Boots

Combat boots are the perfect shoes for those cold, rainy days, and I love loafers for a polished, yet edgy office outfit. Plus, they’re just practical. Unlike heels, you can walk in them all day. Last but not least, sneakers. They’re an obvious choice, but throwing in a pair of platform sneakers is a great way to make any outfit more fun.

8. Bags

Those two bags are absolute workhouses in my wardrobe. Just one classy shoulder bag and one casual bag, such as this fanny pack, are enough to dress up or down any outfit. They’re the perfect size to fit all the essentials without packing all those items “just in case”.
When it comes to shopping bags, make sure to go for neutral colours. They will effortlessly go with everything and you will never get tired of them.

Love, Carola
